Why You Should Care

By jplautz

From September, 2006 until December, 2008, I wrote a current events column for NorthByNorthwestern.com called “Why You Should Care.” It took stories and issues in the news and made them relevant to a college audience. I won an SPJ National Mark of Excellence in Online Opinion and Commentary in 2007 for the column. It has also won two first-place regional SPJ awards and a third-place award.

The entire archive can be viewed here, but here are some of my favorite columns:

Why You Should Care About Charles Rangel; Nov. 27, 2006

Why You Should Care About 2008 Campaign Sites; May 23, 2007

Why You Should Care About Microfinance; Nov. 8, 2007

Why You Should Care About Argentina’s High Speed Train; March 6, 2008

Why You Should Care About Change.gov; Nov. 17, 2009

Why You Should Care About a Gas Tax; Nov. 24, 2009
